PROFESSIONAL WORK & LEADERSHIP
I have worked in a leadership capacity in K-12 Education for 24 years, holding various roles in budgeting, human resources, educational technology, as well as curriculum and instruction. For the last seven years, I have been contracted by the Washtenaw Intermediate School District as Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Superintendent. In these roles, I oversaw the daily operations of multiple school buildings, managed department budgets, and handled state and federal grant budgets for the district. I also supported personnel issues and served as a school representative in both the regional community and statewide. My most recent role was as Region 9 Director of Adult Education for the State of Michigan, where I oversee all program planning and the grant oversight and submission process.
HIGHER EDUCATION TEACHING
Since 2011, I have served as a lecturer at the University of Michigan and since 2022 at Oakland University. My students, who are professionals in the field, teacher candidates pursuing secondary teacher certifications, and graduate students, have provided me with tremendous insight into the needs of teachers. I have designed a range of course focuses, including active student-centered workshops and discussions on pervasive issues in special education and digital technology, such as equitable access and digital citizenship. These experiences inform our professional development offerings at the Educational and Behavioral Conservancy, ensuring they are relevant and impactful.
PUBLIC SCHOOL K-12 TEACHING
My excellence as an educational leader is grounded in my teaching career, which began in Detroit Public Schools, where I taught for six years in linguistically, culturally, and racially diverse classrooms. My focus areas included science, technology, and project-based learning. I also taught in Milan, MI, at both the elementary and middle school levels, and served as the director at the high school's Milan Center for Innovative Studies. My deep connections with students and families in Milan were enriched by my own upbringing in a similar community in Romeo, MI. This background helps me understand and address the unique needs of diverse communities, a perspective that is central to the services we offer at the Educational and Behavioral Conservancy.
EDUCATIONAL CONSULTING
My foundational experience as a teacher in Detroit Public Schools and various other communities has shaped my approach to educational consulting. At the Educational and Behavioral Conservancy, we leverage my extensive background in teaching science, technology, and project-based learning to provide consulting services that are grounded in practical, real-world experience. Our consulting approach is informed by my work in diverse educational settings and my ability to connect with students and families from various backgrounds, ensuring that our recommendations are both effective and inclusive.
